How a Simple Workout Turned Into a Moment of Risk… and a Powerful Reminder of Divine Protection
I want to thank God for His protection in a moment that could have turned out very differently.
Last night, I attended a late Pilates class. It was a normal session, nothing out of the ordinary. We went through our routines, stretching, strengthening, and focusing on our movements. Toward the end of the class, we had one final exercise on one of the machines. It seemed simple enough, just one more movement before we wrapped up.
But in that moment, something unexpected happened.
As I was on the machine, my necklace got caught.
At first, I did not realize how serious it was. But as I tried to move, I felt it tighten around my neck. The more I tried to get up, the more restricted I felt. It was not just uncomfortable. It became alarming. I was stuck, and the necklace was pulling tightly enough to make me panic.
For a brief moment, fear set in.
I tried to free myself, but it was not working. I could feel the pressure, and I knew I might have to call for help. It was one of those situations that happens suddenly, where your mind begins to race through possibilities. What if it tightened further? What if I could not get free quickly?
Just as I was about to call out, something shifted.
The necklace came loose.
It untangled from the machine without force, without struggle, almost as if it had been gently released. One moment I was trapped, and the next moment I was free. I paused, catching my breath, aware that what had just happened could have gone in a completely different direction.
I did not take that moment lightly.
After the class, while I was cleaning up, my necklace fell. When I picked it up, I assumed it had broken during the incident. Given how tightly it had been caught, it seemed like the most logical conclusion. I thought to myself that it would need repair.
But when I got home and took a closer look, I noticed something unusual.
It was not broken.
The chain had simply separated from the hook, but nothing was damaged. No snapped links. No visible break. The hook was still intact, and the chain was still whole. It had come apart in a way that made it possible for me to be released without causing harm.
In that moment, it became clear to me.
What I experienced was not just luck or coincidence. It was protection.
The very thing that could have caused injury became the means of my escape. Instead of tightening further or breaking in a harmful way, it separated cleanly and freed me. It was as if God made a way of escape right in the middle of the situation.
When I think about it, I cannot ignore the detail. The timing. The outcome. The fact that I was not hurt.
God was present.
He protected me in a moment I could not control. He ensured that what could have become dangerous ended safely. Even something as small as a necklace became part of a testimony of His care.
I am grateful.
Grateful for His watchful eye. Grateful for His intervention. Grateful that He is mindful of even the smallest details of our lives.
This experience reminded me that God’s protection is real. It is not always loud or dramatic, but it is constant. He sees what we cannot see and steps in when we least expect it.
I give Him all the glory for keeping me safe.
God still works miracles.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
