From Skeptic to Believer: My Journey to Faith on May 13, 2012 - A personal testimony of encountering Jesus through sincere Bible study and God’s patient guidance
I only went to church for weddings and funerals. I had no interest. On May 13, 2012, I would normally have been watching football as it was the last day of the season, but I was doing something different. I was reading the gospel of Mark! Something was happening! God was talking, and I was listening!
Let’s go back a few months. Our son had died, and I had a desire to go to church. We went to Ballyhenry Presbyterian. Niall, our minister, was quick to spot a couple of new faces and quickly engaged us in conversation. He gave me a card with his contact details. I phoned him and asked to go.
I was not the best student. While doing my homework and reading the Bible I was constantly trying to find fault. I was openly antagonistic at some meetings. Mocking and condescending would be adjectives to describe me. Niall was patient. But close to the end I started to think, “What if?” What if Jesus did live? What if he died on the cross for us? What if he had risen? What if? What if? What if?
After the course I decided to read Mark again. This time sincerely. This time I was getting answers to questions. I was listening. I asked Jesus to come into my heart and became a Christian on May 13, 2012. Jesus DID live. Jesus DID die on the cross for us. Jesus DID rise.
PRAISE THE LORD!
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
