Last week, I had a scary experience that could’ve ended very differently.
While driving on I-80 East, my front driver, side tire burst, right on the highway! I had been cruising at 70 mph for nearly 6 hours and, feeling exhausted, I decided to slow down to 55–60 mph just minutes before the incident. Out of nowhere, I heard a loud bang. For a split second, I was in shock. But instinct quickly kicked in.
I gripped the steering wheel tightly, turned on my hazard lights, and gently pumped the brakes. By some miracle, the blowout happened near an exit, and I was able to steer off the highway and let the car roll to a stop halfway up the ramp.
I immediately called my insurance company, and even though it took them 4 long hours to send help, I was just thankful to be safe. I didn’t make it home until almost 1 a.m., but I made it.
What’s wild is that just the day before, and again that very morning, I had randomly come across a video on social media explaining exactly what to do if your tire bursts while driving. It was so unlike me, but I actually watched it with interest and even practiced how to hold the steering wheel tight before I got into my car that day.
That video might’ve saved my life. I’m beyond grateful that no other cars were too close behind me, and most importantly, that no one got hurt.
God is good. Please stay safe out there, everyone.
