JAMB Testimony: How God Delivered Academic Success Beyond Expectations in 2023
From Fear to 310: A Faith-Based Academic Breakthrough Story of JAMB, WAEC & University Admission
At the beginning of 2023, I made a simple but heartfelt prayer. I asked God to surprise me with academic success.
I was in SS3 at the time, preparing to write my first JAMB examination. It was a season filled with pressure. Everywhere I turned, people were talking about cut off marks, competition, and how difficult it was to get into university. Fear tried to creep in. I began to wonder if I was truly ready, if I would perform well enough, if I would meet the standard required for the course and school I desired.
Instead of allowing that fear to take control, I took it to God.
I prayed with intention. I did not just ask for success in a general way. I asked God for a specific score. I told Him I wanted to score 308 in my JAMB. To some, it might have seemed like just a number, but to me, it represented excellence. It represented a level of achievement that would open doors and give me confidence.
After that prayer, I continued my preparation, but something had shifted inside me. I felt a sense of calm. The fear was still there at times, but it no longer controlled me. I held on to the belief that God had heard me.
The day of the examination came and went.
Then came the waiting period.
Anyone who has ever waited for results knows how intense that time can be. Every day feels longer than usual. Your mind replays the questions, wondering if you did enough, if you made mistakes, if the outcome will match your expectations.
When the result was finally released, I checked it with a mix of hope and nervousness.
And then I saw it.
For a moment, I just stared at the screen. I had asked God for 308, and He gave me 310. It was more than I requested. More than I expected. In that moment, I felt a deep sense of awe. God did not just answer my prayer. He exceeded it.
That alone would have been enough to testify about, but God was not done.
Next came my WAEC examinations. Just like before, I committed it into God’s hands. I studied, I prepared, but I also trusted Him completely. When the results were released, I experienced that same kind of surprise again. God came through for me in a way that reassured me that His hand was truly upon my academic journey.
Each success built my confidence, not just in myself, but in God’s faithfulness.
Then came the final stage.
Admission.
This is often where many students face disappointment. Good results do not always guarantee admission, and uncertainty can linger for months. But I held on to what God had already done. I reminded myself that the same God who helped me excel in JAMB and WAEC was still in control.
In His own perfect way, He made it happen.
I was offered admission into the university of my choice, to study the course I truly desired.
When I look at the entire year 2023, I see a clear pattern. It was a year of divine surprises. A year where God showed me that He listens, He cares, and He responds. Not just adequately, but abundantly.
He took my fear and replaced it with testimony.
He took my small request and turned it into something greater.
He proved to me that when you trust Him with your goals, even something as important as your education, He is able to guide you and bring you into success.
I am deeply grateful for His grace over my life. I do not take any of it for granted.
If there is one thing I have learned, it is that God is interested in every detail of our lives, even our exams, our results, and our future plans. When we invite Him into those areas, He shows up in ways that leave us in awe.
I truly thank God for His goodness and faithfulness throughout 2023.
